“Prost!” That’s “cheers!” in German, and the only German word you need to know at this year’s 44th annual Oktoberfest at the American-German Club in Lake Worth starting Friday, Oct. 13. Submerge yourself in the German culture by enjoying two weekends of family fun, with authentic German meals, live music, entertainment, arts and crafts for the kids and of course, more beer! Oktoberfest of the Palm Beaches is held the second and third weekends in October every year, rain or shine.
The celebration will kick off with several ceremonies such as a flag parade and a German beer keg tapping. The Heldensteiner band is back straight from Munich at Oktoberfest of the Palm Beaches. Get ready to drink, eat, and dance your butt off in your best German attire. Keep your eyes open and congratulate the winner of Miss Oktoberfest 2017. For event updates, click here.
Hurricane Matthew Update: The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts announces the cancellation of “Goodnight Moon” and “The Runaway Bunny” originally scheduled for Oct. 6 through Oct. 8, and “Songs of Freedom” on Oct. 6. Guests who purchased tickets will be receiving an automatic refund.
Don’t let Hurricane Matthew ruin the fun this week. If you and your friends don’t have plans yet, why not stay together and go throwback to elementary school with a sleepover? Not really kidding, but there’s more.
Here are my top picks to keep calm and have an awesome get-together slash hurricane party (if that’s how you and your fam get down).
1. Make all kinds of Pizza! #MamaMia
I’m talking meat lovers, veggie and even dessert. This is an activity that takes some time, is creative and interactive.
Pillsbury Pizza Crust. Pop it, place it in oven, enjoy a fresh crust. (Or spice up your pizza life by using garlic naan instead!)
Sauces: Tomato sauce, Alfredo and Pesto.
Veggies: Tomatoes, Mushrooms and green peppers.
Meats: Pepperoni, sausage and ham.
Dessert Pizzas: Nutella, Reese’s creamy peanut butter and Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter (my favorite). Bananas, Strawberries and whip cream.
2. Do it Yourself!
Just this past weekend, my friend and I were able to transform a crappy thrift shop coffee table into a stylish piece of art (or so we think). Take a look around your home, see what chandeliers, tables, stools or lamps you don’t like.
If you need some inspiration, then see your way to Pinterest. Just key in what items you’ve got and watch your phone screen fill up with awesome DIY magic.
Hurricane Matthew update: Fright Nights in West Palm Beach, has been canceled for this weekend, according to a Fright Nights representative. The popular Halloween event was set to open Thursday, Oct. 6 at the South Florida Fairgrounds with a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour.
The pop-rock band Chemradery, who were due to play on that night, will be rescheduled for a later date. Clematis by Night will resume on schedule on Thursday, Oct. 13 with Emily Brooke as the scheduled entertainment.
